About

“I wish I had learned that when I was young.”

I cannot tell you how many times I have heard those words or something close to them since I began working for Consumer Education and Training Services (“CENTS”). CENTS is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 1995 by the Honorable Karen Overstreet and senior members of the Washington State bankruptcy bar to help people make wise financial decisions. In 2007, with help from the Consumer Protection and Education Fund, CENTS created Debt Slapped, a money management video and website aimed at high school and college students. Debt Slapped is distributed nationally to colleges and high schools and receives overwhelmingly positive feedback from students and teachers alike.

We identified an additional need to provide money management instruction to young adults like you who are out in the real world and, thankfully, the Consumer Protection and Education Fund agreed. “Debt Slapped Grad” is our latest offering and we hope it provides a voice of reason in response to all the noise aimed at you and your peers.

We are confident that “Debt Slapped Grad” provides quality financial education that you can trust, that will teach you the skills and concepts you need to take control of your financial situation and make decisions that are in your best interest, not that of some bank or credit card company.

We congratulate you for educating yourself on this very important topic and urge you to stay positive and keep at it. You’ll thank yourself.

All the best.
